Is mechanical engineering hard?

Is mechanical engineering hard? If yes then how hard and difficult it is? I find myself of great interest in mechanical engineering. But whenever I tell anyone that I am going to get admission in mechanical engineering, they tell me to think twice before finalizing the decision because it’s a hard engineering course. Is it really true that mechanical engineering degree is tough and hard as compared to other engineering degrees? Some of my friend who is doing software engineering from an engineering college told me that in his college ratio of students who fail is greater in mechanical engineering department every semester because they need to study tough and difficult courses.

Depends on your interest .. if you are into machines autommotives .. its very easy .. if you are good at physics n mathematics its easy too .. except some field work cause u are a girl and not supposed to do heavy field work .. Rest mechanical engineering is awesome field .. best luck .. and I guess you are from IIT .. :)

Short answer, yes.

Long answer. If you have mind for a degree that uses knowledge from pretty much every field of engineering, it's a little easier. I'm in my Junior year and this degree is definitly not for the faint of heart. That being said, the only other degree I would want, is one in civil engineering because it is just as complex and interesting. As long as you're interested in the material and take the time to really learn what each class is teaching, you'll do fine.

simply i say, its true that mechanical engg is the toughest branch among all the braches.i admit that its true but nothing is tougher in the world if you are very much consious about your work.failure comes in each and every hard path.hard things are not easy to get,but its not impossiible that you cant do that.i am also a mechanical engg. and i didnt get any back logs in any subject in my whole engg life.

Well I would suggest to take this field without any regret ...... i have completed mechanical engineering.....  being the only girl in my branch.. Journey of 4 year was awesome ....... weather it is MECH,CS,IT or any other branch  you will have few difficult sub in each semester .... so choose such a field u  have interest  & enjoy learning them ......  one must be  dedicated  & determined for sure you will complete engg in 4 years .... as far jobs are concerned have gr8 opportunity than any other branch ....... I would say go for it ......  I hope u make wise  selection

Thank you all for your time and replies to my question. I have got admission offer from few colleges and universities in India and i shall definitely do my bachelors in mechanical engineerign without any fears. Now i know that mechanical engineering is not tough and hard at all but it really depends on someone's interest in the subject and courses.

Thank you Ashwini Smile Your reply was more encouraging for me.  I am really very grateful to you for your reply being a female student of mechanical engineering.
